ABOUT
The Ruaha National Park website was established in 2008 and is managed by myself, Matthew Lewis. When younger I lived for several years (1999-2001) in Iringa, just East of Ruaha National Park and visited the park on numerous occasions.
Since then I have returned to Tanzania and Ruaha on 5 occasions. From that young age I have always had a passion for wildlife (and Ruaha) and am now a Senior Sophister student of Zoology in Trinity College, Ireland. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to volunteer on the Ruaha Carnivore Project in the summer of 2012, which does tremendous work in the park itself and the surrounding communities. On completion of my degree I hope to pursue a career in research or conservation somewhere in Africa.
Ruaha has often been described as 'Tanzania's Best-Kept Secret', and as such there was no real source of info available on the park. I went about changing this, and set up the website in 2008 which I have been developing on and off since when I can find the time. A Facebook page was set up in early 2010 and a Twitter feed also, expanding the reach.
There have been several people who have contributed along the way. Sue Stolberger's Ruaha River updates have been a feature in the 'Latest News' section. The 'Gallery' has benefited by photo contributions from Pauline Salta, Paolo Andreasi and Sandra Paton. Umang Raghu Gossain of Gazelle Safaris has regularly sent in photos of the river situation while also providing vital park information. Most of the camps have provided plenty of photos and information for the 'Accommodation' pages and have been very helpful with any questions.
As such the website is not official and park accommodation etc. can not be booked through us, but we can point you in the right direction with email addresses and phone numbers of those who can help you. The website is non-profit, yet if you would like to donate for all the effort i've put in please feel free to do so HERE. If you have any queries please feel free to contact us by email on [email protected] .
Asante,
Matthew
